•     E-scooters can be used without a driving license.
•     No helmet requirement. Even if the use of a helmet is strongly recommended for safety reasons.
•     However, an e-scooter insurance is mandatory. The insurance sticker must be visibly attached to the electric scooter. The insurance costs are around 40 euros a year.
•     E-scooters are allowed on bike paths. Only if there is no cycle path is it allowed to use the lane. There is a general ban on the use of sidewalks – they must not be used under any circumstances.
•     The device must meet the requirements for road approval for e-scooters. This regulates both the strength of the engine, the maximum design-related speed of 20 km / h, weight, size and safety-specific minimum equipment such as lights, bells or brakes.

Do you need a driver’s license for e-scooters?

You can use an e-scooter without a license in Ireland – but the rules mentioned above must be observed, among other things. According to the current catalog of fines, there is a severe penalty for disregard.

Therefore, you should make sure that the device has a general operational traffic permit and, above all, does not drive faster than 20 km / h. Because in many countries these rules are not interpreted so strictly and a maximum speed of 25 km / h is usually allowed.
